An overview of Indian coconut crops and the production of coconut oil.

Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Goa, Orissa, Maharashtra, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Lakshadweep, the Andaman, and Nicobar Islands, and Pondicherry are among the states where coconut is mostly grown. Coconut is India’s most valued crop, despite its challenging cultivation. This will create the framework for the future growth of the coconut oil production business.

Coconuts hold a significant place in Indian culture in terms of religious importance. Our country is currently ranked third among the top coconut farmers in the world. On 1.78 million hectares of planted land, India produces approximately 9.5 lakh metric tonnes of coconuts.

Coconut demand has recently increased considerably in Indian markets. Organic virgin coconut oil, in particular, is in high demand in the United States and Europe. Last year, our country exported approximately 500 tonnes of coconut, and this year’s exports are expected to increase. Raw coconuts and virgin coconut oil have been in high demand for many years, driving the coconut oil manufacturing industry. Last year, the sale of raw coconuts brought in more over Rs 200 crores for our country.

FSSAI registration is required for coconut oil producers.

According to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, no food industry operator can function without an FSSAI registration. The FSS Act of 2006 created this provision for all FBOs participating in the food supply chain. In addition to producers, the law applies to distributors, packagers, and marketers.

  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, or FSSAI, oversees the registration and licensing processes.
  • The Food Safety and Requirements Legislation of 2006 promotes food safety and requires FBOs to follow food safety standards established by the act.
  • The FSSAI registration price ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 7500.
  • The FSSAI divides the licensing protocol into three stages: basic registration, state registration, and central registration. The bulk of small business owners and petty manufacturers are covered by base registration. Meanwhile, larger establishments such as hotels, canteens, restaurants, and other comparable establishments account for the remainder.

Coconut oil companies must submit paperwork in order to receive the Central License.
